Mohammed

Seven-year-old Mohammed was air-lifted to Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC from Afghanistan to receive lifesaving treatment for a congenital heart condition known as tetralogy of Fallot—a hole in the heart. The condition affected his pigmentation which led to the youngster’s nickname “Blue,” which he was affectionately dubbed by doctors and friends at the army base hospital. Mohammed’s quintuple bypass surgery was performed by Dr. Richard Jonas, Children’s Chief of Cardiac Surgery. Larry King made a personal visit to Mohammed days after his surgery, “Unfortunately, heart disease knows no boundaries and heart disease doesn’t discriminate by age or nationality. We are so pleased that the Foundation and our valued partners can make such a huge difference in the life of this young boy.”
