Forty-three-year-old Michael walked into the George Washington University Hospital Emergency Room complaining of chest pain. The Washington D.C. handyman had no health insurance but was not eligible for any financial assistance programs.
Norberta
Norberta is a homemaker who woke up early one morning to take a walk with her two-year-old granddaughter. Some minutes into their walk, she began feeling strong chest pains, as well as pain in her arms and back. As she walked the pain became stronger, and Norberta became very concerned about getting her granddaughter home safely. Once home, her son was able to take her to the ER where she had a heart attack, and later learned she would need a stent implantation to hold her arteries open. The Larry King Cardiac Foundation not only covered the cost of the procedure, but also had the help of their medical device partner, Cordis Corporation, who donated the CYPHER® Stent. Norberta is happy to be able to take care of her granddaughter once again. She said, “When I went into the hospital my family was scared for me. But now, everyone is happy I am back. Thank you.”
