An Evening with Larry King and Cavalia
Los Angeles, CA (December 17, 2010) --- An Evening with Larry King and Cavalia, a fundraiser for the Larry King Cardiac Foundation, set for Thursday, January 20, will celebrate the return of Cavalia: A Magical Encounter Between Horse and Human, to Los Angeles. That evening, Cavalia, a grand-scale spectacle created by Normand Latourelle, one of the founders of Canada’s famed Cirque du Soleil, will be performed in its entirety. This 2011 engagement of Cavalia, which begins the night before, January 19 with the press opening, will be performed under the White Big Top in downtown Burbank at 777 North Front Street.
The Larry King Cardiac Foundation (LKCF) was established in 1988 to provide funding for life-saving treatment for individuals who, due to limited means or no insurance, would otherwise be unable to receive the treatment and care they so desperately need. The Foundation works in conjunction with hospitals throughout the nation to ensure that such patients receive proper medical attention. Doctors performing these surgeries do so at no charge. Hospitals are compensated only for the materials used. Hearts are repaired, families are given another chance, and lives are saved.
It started in 1987, when King himself awoke in the Intensive Care Unit of a New York hospital after undergoing successful quintuple bypass heart surgery. For almost a year, his heart had been failing as a result of cardiovascular disease. Larry was lucky. His hospital bills were covered by insurance. Others are not so lucky. While Larry was recovering from his operation, he made a promise to himself to help others who may not be as lucky.
Larry King said, “A few years ago I saw Cavalia and thought it one of the most magnificent, unique, and uplifting shows ever – in which horses and humans come together in a rare display to celebrate our own humanity. I knew that we wanted to bring our supporters to a performance of this beautiful and inspiring show, which so communicates hope and renewal, that so matches my aspirations for our Foundation.”
Normand Latourelle, the creator of Cavalia said, “We are honored to be joining Larry King for a special evening to begin our return Los Angeles engagement. It feels natural that Cavalia, which after all is a celebration of life, should support the Larry King Cardiac Foundation and its mission to save lives.”
